Approximate General Guidelines:

To get the best results, start with a double bath. Use a clarifying shampoo for the first bath to remove any residue on the coat. Add Coat Tamer to your non-clarifying shampoo for the second bath. Occasionally, a double bath helps to maintain a healthy coat.
An HV dryer, slicker brush and comb are highly recommended for optium results.

1- To pretreat mats:

    a) Apply and massage concentrate or dilute to use as a spray solution 15 parts warm distilled water to 1 part Coat Tamer concentrate, directly into each mat to help penetrate the mat.

    b) Separate the hair before bathing.

2- For hand bathing:

    a) Add Coat Tamer concentrate to non-clarifying shampoo prior to use AS NEEDED; do not pre-mix. Do NOT dilute your shampoo prior to adding Coat Tamer concentrate.

    b) Add 1ml, ~0.2 tsp, adjust as needed, to 2oz non-clarifying concentrated shampoo with a 10:1 dilution ratio; or 3ml to 6oz concentrated shampoo. For shampoos with a higher dilution ratio, increase the amount of Coat Tamer concentrate accordingly as needed.

    c) Mix well BEFORE diluting per the shampoo's manufacturer's directions for use. Amount to add can vary depending on many factors; such as water quality, condition of the coat, etc.

    d) Massage and allow lather to remain on the coat for 10 minutes to penetrate each hair before rinisng.

    e) Towel dry.

    f) Spray damp coat with diluted Coat Tamer and massage into the coat before drying.

    g) Spray and separate any visible large mats.

    h) Blow drying the coat using an HV dryer and brushing with a slicker brush are highly recommended for best results.

    i) Brush and comb to finish.

3- For recirculating systems:

    a) If you are using a recirculating system AND pretreat mats, you will NOT have to add Coat Tamer to the shampoo.

    b) The Coat Tamer is already on the coat and will dilute with the water.

    c) After pretreating, just add the shampoo to the water and the recirculating system will mix them together in the tub.

    d) There will be more than enough Coat Tamer in the water from the pretreat for bathing.

    e) Towel dry.

    f) Spray damp coat with diluted Coat Tamer and massage into the coat before drying.

    g) Spray and separate any visible large mats.

    h) Blow drying the coat using an HV dryer and brushing with a slicker brush are highly recommended for best results.

    i) Brush and comb to finish.

4- To use as a standalone hair conditioner:

    a) Dilute 10 parts warm water to 1 part Coat Tamer concentrate; rinse afterwards.

    b) Adjust as needed.

5- To make a spray solution:

    a) Dilute 15 parts warm distilled water to 1 part Coat Tamer concentrate.

    b) Sprayed on solution does not need to be rinsed off.

    c) Store any unused portion in the refrigerator and use within a month's time.

    d) For bathing, add 0.25oz spray solution to 2oz non-clarifying concentrated shampoo with 10:1 dilution ratio; mix before diluting to make 20oz ready-to-use shampoo mixture.

    e) Adjust as needed.

NOTE: Spray solution can be diluted more to be used as a light brushing spray solution between baths.

    AVOID EYES

Note: If you have a preferred grooming technique, method or procedure, please do not hesitate to try it using Coat Tamer.

Coat Tamer goes beyond de-matting and conditioning. If your dog likes rolling and playing in the snow, spraying the coat with Coat Tamer before going outside helps prevent the snowballs from forming on the coat. Therefore no defrosting is needed. Coat Tamer also helps make the removal of burrs and debris easier.
